Sometimes that's what old people need, someone to listen to them talk. It was the same with my grandma when she was alive. I would sit beside her letting her talk non stop, my only response occasionally were "Oh", "yeah", and "Are you sure?" even though I was most of the time not paying attention and have no idea what's going on XD
ReplyDeleteThat's so true! I actually try to have some conversations with her since I do not get to see her often, and she really enjoys that. She seems to enjoy talking to Kevin too. It is fun to see Kevin's facial expressions.
DeleteWhat is she saying anyways...?
ReplyDeleteIt can be really anything. For the comic above, she is talking about someone she knows whose daughter is in Canada.
DeleteOh! Does she speak the really special Aomori ben that's only spoken by older women? I can't remember what it is called but I was really interested in it after I went to Aomori. I picked up a set of postcards with gorgeous drawings of old women and phrases written in that dialect.
ReplyDeleteIt is called Tsugaru ben. Young people also speak the dialect. It depends on which area they live in Aomori. I want everyone to visit Aomori during the cherry blossom festival or the Nebuta festival! :D
DeleteThe good old, "Just smile and nod." Saved my life my first few months in japan!
