Sad, sad sad... But hilarious. I love Kevin's dad's face.
ReplyDeleteI think I captured his face well. He looks pretty friendly just like that.
DeleteOh boy, given my understanding of how much portents matter in Asian cultures, I sympathize with how much the chrysanthemums must've freaked you out. I'm glad that you can look back on the incident now in a humorous way in comic form. Your story reminds me of a minor incident I once had in a Chinese restaurant: there was no fortune in my fortune cookie. When I asked the waiter if this meant anything bad, he looked completely horrified for a second and then assured me in a very frightened manner (with a very forced smile while speaking very rapidly) that it meant I was very, very lucky. And then the poor guy rushed back into the kitchen--to have a minor breakdown, I assume. Not being Asian, however, my friends and just chuckled about it a bit. Fortunately, I live to tell the tale today. :)
ReplyDeleteI was never really upset or sad about the flowers. :) Kevin's parents' faces were so funny when I told them what the flowers are used for in Japan. Haha. They are beautiful flowers!
DeleteI really enjoyed your comic. I am half Japanese and half Chinese, Canadian. Born and Raise in Vancouver, BC. Excellent Post! : )
